So nearly ready...

The last week, since returning from work has been a mad rush to get everything ready before I leave on my Atlantic Loop. I had my list ready when I got back to Ariadne, but as usual more and more things crop up. But happy to say that all the jobs are complete and Ariadne is nearly ready.

The main job was to find a life raft. Because of my own disorganisation this proved quite difficult as I had left it to the last minute to get one. My plan was to hire one for the winter and then buy one just before the race. But to hire one, especially an Ocean raft, takes more than a few days. So I could either buy one and spend my winters budget on it or hire a coastal raft. It’s one of those things that you hope is just a huge waste of money and you will never see what’s in the box but…

After many phone calls and emails there was one more company to try, universal safety. I called them up and told them what I was after not expecting them to have one, and he says he’s looking at a four man canister raft right now. My response ‘you what?’ Rather rude but I was in a little shock after constantly being told I had left it too late and would have to wait two to three weeks for one. Luckily I was able to pick it up the next morning, now the hassle raft sits proudly on the coachroof. Another question I have been asking myself regarding the raft and the race is whether it’s best to be situated on the coachroof or the pushpit? Both locations can be quite vulnerable, probably more so the coachroof, but the pushpit will pose a slight trim issue especially as it will be a lot heavier for the race. Anyway, for now it’s sorted.
